Privacy Policy — ClaimScout

This Privacy Policy describes how ClaimScout (“we,” “us”) handles information when you use the Service. The Service is a research tool for public-land mining claims and related public data.

We aim to collect only what we need to run and improve the Service. We do not sell your personal information.

Account information: when you sign up or sign in we process your email address, name, hashed password (for email sign-in), and identifiers from Google or X if you use those providers.

Research input you type or save: place names, coordinates, claim serials, notes, locator profile fields, drafts, holdings lists, Watch pins, File & List listings, and support messages.

When you are signed in, plan status, saved prospects, owned-claim records, and related account data are stored on our servers so they can persist across devices.

If you subscribe, payment is processed by Stripe. We receive billing metadata such as plan, subscription status, and Stripe customer or subscription identifiers. We do not receive or store full card numbers.

Some desk state (layout, first-run dismissal, local drafts, on-device plan preview flags) is stored in your browser’s local storage.

Clearing site data, using private mode, or blocking storage can erase that local data. Signed-in account records remain on the server until you ask us to delete them or we delete them under this Policy.

When you use a hosted version of the Service, standard technical data may be processed by our hosting provider: IP address, browser type, request times, pages viewed, and error logs.

To enforce free-plan limits and prevent abuse we may store usage counts tied to your account, or a hashed network identifier when you are not signed in.

If we add limited analytics later, it will focus on reliability (crashes, failed requests), not advertising profiles. We will update this Policy if that changes.

Map tile and public-record requests may be sent from your browser or our servers to third parties (for example BLM, USGS, Esri, OpenStreetMap-style providers). Those parties process data under their own policies.

To provide map, search, draft, and desk features you request.

To enforce plan limits, prevent abuse, and keep the Service secure.

To communicate about the Service if you contact us or opt into notices.

To improve reliability and user experience.

We do not sell personal information.

We may share data with service providers who help us host, secure, or operate the Service, under obligations to use it only for that work.

We may disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a merger or sale of the Service (with notice where required).

Public records you look up remain public; we do not turn the Service into a private dossier about other people beyond what public claim records already show.

Server logs are kept as needed for security and operations, then deleted or anonymized on a rolling basis.

Local device data remains until you clear it or uninstall the app / clear site data.

Account or billing records are kept as required for law, taxes, and dispute resolution, and to operate your plan.

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to a research web app. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

You are responsible for protecting devices you use to access the Service and for keeping any owner or license codes confidential.

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where that is the applicable age). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child provided information, contact us to delete it.

You can stop using the Service at any time.

You can clear browser storage for this site to remove local drafts and lists.

You can contact us to ask about access, correction, or deletion of personal information we hold on servers, subject to legal exceptions.

Where required (for example certain U.S. state laws or GDPR if we offer the Service to those residents), we will honor applicable rights to know, delete, correct, or opt out of sale/sharing — note: we do not sell personal information.

The Service is designed primarily for U.S. public-land claim research. If you access it from outside the United States, you understand information may be processed in the U.S. or where our providers operate.

We may update this Privacy Policy by posting a new version in the app or on the Service. The effective date at the bottom will change. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated Policy.
